Nathan's First School Project

Nathan's pre-school spends one term doing project work every year. The children learn to work as a team on a topic that is chosen by the teachers.

Phase 1 - Brainstorming, questioning, discussing & planning
Phase 2 - Investigating, interviewing & field trip
Phase 3 - Selecting, compiling information & presentation

The theme assigned to his class with 'flowers'. I planned a few simple mini projects for him to work on during the June holidays. We had fun visiting Gardens by the Bay, learning about how plants grow, making flowers out of recyclced materials and even planting our own sunflowers and balsam.

In school, they got to work on more craft projects. I am amazed at how the teachers have made use of recycled materials like egg cartons, straws and bottles to create unique handicrafts. The classroom that was decorated with all their work was a lovely sight. Nathan particularly enjoyed the excursion where he visited the Orchid Garden with his friends.

To conclude, an open house was planned to showcase the children's work. Parents got to view their children's masterpieces and watch a 'mini concert' put up by the children.

This video montage documents Nathan's very first school project. I am thankful that I get to be a large part of his learning journey as a stay home mom. Really enjoyed the 'mini concert'... Nathan came to give me a hug when it ended, and I was fighting to hold back tears. Well done son!

Talk About Feelings

I have 3 boys at home... and I was told that boys hardly talk about feelings. That's how they have been wired... or so I am told.

When Fish Book Co. contacted me about gifting me a book about feelings for my boys, I got pretty excited! A few days later, I received a book titled "Today I Am" by Mies Van Hout. It is translated from an award winning Dutch version and the book covers all the emotions that a young child might encounter.

Each double page spread shows the picture of a fish depicting a particular emotion along with the word describing that feeling. As we flipped through the book, I talked about each emotion with my boys and gave scenarios of when we might feel that way. I loved the illustrations of the fishes. Doodled with crayons (or the like), the fishes portrayed the feelings they were supposed to represent in a simple way that spoke to a child. My boys now have a wider vocabulary of 'feeling words' and I hope that means I get a better answer when I ask them how they are feeling.

Fish Book Co. is giving away 5 books. If you'd like a copy of "Today I Am", leave me your name and email address in the comments. Giveaway ends 10 Aug 2013. 5 winners will be picked at random.

Giveaway Results
Thanks for taking part in the giveaway. The winners are Connie, PC, Xinying, Jolin and Shermeen. Fish Book Co will be in touch with you shortly.

Holster Footwear

I kinda stopped buying things for myself ever since I quit my full time job. Most mornings, I'll just slip into something comfortable (usually t-shirt, berms and a pair of flip flops) for school runs, errands, grocery shopping and the like.

My pair of flip flops, the same pair that I have been using the last 4 years were wearing out and I have been looking for something to replace them. I am quite particular about footwear. They have to be comfortable and easy to put on / take off. Imagine my delight when I came across Holster jellies. They are so comfortable, I can wear them everyday almost everywhere. I can slip them on and off easily, which comes in useful when I need to run back to the house for the Nth time because I forgot something. It is versatile - goes well with casual wear like berms or jeans, and dressy enough when paired with my favourite dinner outfit. With hundreds of designs in both kids and adult sizes, I was spoilt for choice. Eventually, I bought the St Tropaz Stud in Bronze.

Best part is... they are on SALE!

Not Too Big is currently having a Holster Footwear end of season sale. Many kids and adult designs are going at great prices! Grab a pair for you and your favourite girls today!

Drypers Drypantz New & Improved

Drypers has launched a new and improved version of pull-up diapers and Noah got to test them out. He likes wearing pull-ups as it is easy for him to put on and pull off his diapers all by himself. See how stylish he looks...

The drypantz fits Noah snugly without cutting into his chubby frame. He hops, skips and jumps about with ease, movements hardly impaired by the diapers. He loves the kangaroo print and has been asking to wear his kangaroo diaper ever since I introduced it to him. I like how 'front' and 'back' is clearly marked on the diapers. This is especially useful for the dads, some of whom have problems figuring out which side should face front.

In the daytime, we change Noah's diapers every 3 to 4 hours. The diapers kept him dry throughout and I did not get any complains of 'diapers falling down'. Thumbs up for Drypers Drypantz!

Disclaimer: We received 4 packs of Drypers Drypantz for purposes of this review. All opinions are my own.
